The New Swing

The students at a school wanted a new swing. They asked the Board of Education for the swing in the picture.
The Board of Education said they could not afford such an elaborate swing so they funded the swing shown.
A parent complained that a student could fall off a swing and get hurt. Or, one of the ropes could break. So, the Board of Education appointed a committee to look into swing safety. The Safety Committee decided that if one of the ropes were cut then the swing would be safe from "normal accidents associated with swings".
The school principal immediately recognized that the swing appeared broken. To avoid negative press, the principle formed a committee which recommended that a sign should be placed on the swing. The sign says "This physical therapy device has been altered to avoid injury to the perpetrators." Which of means, " The swing is not broken."
The Board lawyers were still worried that someone could get hurt on the swing. They recommended DOL (Distance Offset Limiters) . Now if a child hangs on the the rope and swings too high they will run into a pole (known as a DOL).

DOL is now a major part of education.
